Larissa Patel is an internationally known artist currently in the Atlanta area. A native of South Carolina, she attended the College of Charleston with a BA in studio art and ultimately moved to New York City where she received her MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute and her MS in Media Management from The New School. She has exhibited in Charleston, New York City, and Miami along with other cities across the US. An educator for many years on the college level, she works with private students as well as professionals as a creative coach.
Much of her work deals with the saudade of people through isolation and loss. Art has been able to express the wistful yearning for connection and belonging that words and experiences can not. In these works, she uses herself as a model but evokes the universal. She uses a combination of pinhole, paint on emulsions, and digital technology to create her final images.
She is inspired by the artwork of Francis Bacon, Sarah Moon, Barbara Ess, and Francesca Woodman along with the poetry of Adrienne Rich.
She is currently working on a series related to the emotions of dawn and dusk.
